Fun Facts about Reindeer!

Did you know that reindeer eyes change colour depending on the season? 👀

The part that changes inside the eye is called the ‘tapetum lucidum’, it reflects more light within the eye. It’s the reason some animals have the ability to see well in the dark! 🌌
In summer, a reindeer's tapetum lucidum shines golden, but in winter, it turns blue! Scientists think this helps them adapt to the dramatic light changes in summer and winter. ☀️☃️
Reindeer can see ultraviolet light which humans can’t - this means it can be startling when they see electric power lines because of UV light sparking around them like fireworks. 🎆

While Rudolphs’s nose is red 🔴, reindeer noses actually have lots of blood vessels that warm up the frosty air as it comes into the body so its nice and toasty.
